In the true spirit of Christmas, Boulevard Cafe and Catering recently partnered with Cornestones, ADP and Shelter House to host the RISE West Holiday Party on Tuesday, December 16. Residents of the House’s permanent supportive housing program were treated to an evening of arts and crafts, a hearty meal, and a visit from Santa.
“Currently, 82 children call Shelter House home,” said Mike Rafeedie, President and Founder of Boulevard Café Catering. “If we can help — in any small way — to make their Christmas a little more bright, that’s what the holiday season is all about.”
Boulevard Cafe Catering cooked up a holiday menu of roasted turkey, ham, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin; and apple pie for dessert. “Everything went wonderfully,” Rafeedie continued. “The holiday partiers loved everything.”
Shelter House, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization serving homeless families in Fairfax County, Virginia. Our organization was formed in 1981, when several ecumenical groups came together to better serve Fairfax County’s low-income population. In 1985, Shelter House’s facility was moved to its current location in Falls Church. In 2007, Shelter House was awarded Fairfax County’s contract to operate the Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax. In 2010, Shelter House became the first non-profit to operate Artemis House, Fairfax County’s only 24 hour Domestic Violence Shelter.
